Many clients now arrive with so much psychological information already. They may have watched TikTok therapists, listened to podcasts, completed online quizzes, read about attachment styles, trauma responses, ADHD, narcissism, boundaries….
We would suggest that the question is no longer whether therapists should offer psychoeducation, but how we might do it without turning therapy into a lesson, or imposing an explanation on the client.
Today’s training will help clients change the question from What’s wrong with me? to What happened to me? and What did I learn in order to cope? Psycho-ed gives clients a language, information and imagery to increase self-awareness, self-acceptance, empowerment and choice, within a warm, caring and responsive therapeutic relationship.
The course includes:
• How to introduce psychoeducation to a client
• Do’s and don’ts of sharing information: the art of knowing what to offer, how much, when and when to say nothing at all
• Using visual images, models and infographics
• Using online WebApps
• Sharing simply the brain-body connection
• Using cards, metaphors, diagrams, chairs and creative tools
